One of my favorite lockdowns in the past has been trapping history books for old commercials for technology. The best finds are those that are far ahead of their time, they are very comfortable by today’s standards, but also hyper retro in design.
Dig a little deeper into these nuggets of bygone days, and you will see something deeper: an idea, a vision that the engineers thought could be the future need more Look like It is the space between sci-fi and reality.
The Sinclair C5 is a perfect example. The C5 was the brainchild of Sir Clive Sinclair, a famous British inventor who made things like calculators and early personal computers. But C5 was one of his best ideas.
It was so ahead of its time that it wouldn’t have seemed out of place if it were released today – but it was launched more than 30 years ago.
In a nutshell, the C5 was a sit-on ebike that boasts all the features and benefits that modern microbability devices do. It was cheap to drive, easy to park and emitted no emissions. Even modern bike brands like it Reestablishing the canon idea For modern roads.
Till here Citroen has brought an idea For a car that can be driven by 14 year olds.
Even though Sinclair saw the future we are all trying to achieve, his idea was way ahead of his time and eventually C5 Fell flat on security concerns and poor marketing.
Sinclair’s C5 might not have been held, but his vision certainly was. Watch the video above and revel in what could have happened.
