Even before the leak, we all saw the Galaxy Buds Pro. It was a given that the company was planning to give its own take on Apple’s AirPods Pro, which had better sound quality and active noise canceling. However, the real secret weapon here may have a price.
In this morning’s S21 announcement, Samsung dropped the price of its flagship smartphone by $ 200, and here the Galaxy Buds AirPods are $ 50 cheaper than the asking price. It’s not exactly clearance-bin pricing, but $ 199 is a very reasonable price. And Samsung’s earbud track record is a very good indication that the headphones will be solid.
The buds get five hours of on-board battery life. It cancels active noise and bumps up to eight hours with the Bixby Voice Off – one of the things I can easily live without. The case cuts things up to 18 and 28 hours respectively. Very impressive claims for a small case.
The design of the buds improves upon the seminal design of the Galaxy Buds Live, trading it for something more ergonomic designed to reduce the contact area between the device and the ear. According to Samsung’s claims, the ANC is capable of reducing ambient sound by up to 99%. You can tweak the setting from there. They sport an 11mm woofer and 6.5mm tweeter with three microphones for calls.
There are some features specifically for Samsung devices, including auto switching between phones and tablets, as well as Dolby head tracking and microphone capability for video recording on the Galaxy S21.
The buds are available in three colors and go up for order today. They will hit retail tomorrow.
