Google Adds 3 New Features For People Ready to Travel Again

As search trends show renewed interest in travel, Google is adding new features to help people plan their next trip.

Hotel searches reached a 10-year high by Google in April 2021, as did the search for “where can I travel” and “restrictions for the country”.

To help answer those questions, and to keep people up to date with travel advice, Google is incorporating three new features in search results.

New travel-related features in Google search results

Updated updates for Google search are designed to help people stay informed about the latest travel guidance and explore potential destinations.

Latest travel guide

When searchers search for flight, hotel, or travel information, Google currently lets them find out if there are COVID-19 related travel advice or restrictions for their intended destination.

Google is now adding more travel restriction details, such as whether people need to quarantine upon arrival or provide test results or vaccination records.

Searchers can track travel advice or restrictions for a possible destination and receive email updates. While viewing a travel advisory, users will see the option to “Receive an email when this guide changes”.

Selecting this option will allow people to receive notifications when adding, lifting, or reducing restrictions. These updates are country-specific, with state-specific information available in the United States.

Destination idea

Google has updated Explore to help people find their next travel destination. Google Flights users may be familiar with the Explore Map, which shows flight prices for various destinations. Although the user has to be flexible when traveling and when.

Explore now has its own tab on Google.com/travel which has been redesigned to help users browse more than flights.

Users will see more destinations on the map, such as small cities and national parks. If they have a certain type of travel in mind, they can filter out destinations for interests such as outdoors, beaches or skiing.

Recommendations can be reduced by the method of travel. If users only want to see cities with airports, for example, they can only select flights in “travel mode”.

When a destination is selected, Google will indicate whether there is a travel advisory or a restriction. Apart from flights, users will see other useful information to plan their trip, such as hotels, things, best time to travel and more.
